Tuesday 13 June: to Koroni
We’re so sad to leave this blissful setting. I think this is my favourite place in Greece. We enjoy our final swim in the aquarium and breakfast on the balcony before pedalling off, heavy laden once again. We start with a stinking hill of course and then a very aggressive barking dog to get my adrenaline going! It’s hot out if the wind. We wend our way over to Methoni. I am excited to revisit the castle which was a highlight on our previous visit. However we are greeted with “closed on Tuesdays”! We walk around the walls and grab a few distant photos. So disappointing. Onwards to Finikounda where we refresh with a delicious fresh orange juice and plenty of water before we commence the hour long ascent etched on our memories from 2015. It’s steep in places but the views are dramatic and I’m beginning to get used to these challenges on our holidays! It’s a glorious swoop down the other side although the blue sky seems to evolve into grey cloud as we descend. We stop for lunch at a taverna on Memi beach and enjoy a well earned beer, Greek salad and delicious grilled Talagani cheese. A bit more if a hill seems to follow before we reach Koroni and our rather Greek hotel. The balcony has a side sea view and highlights the local electrical cabling network but I’m sure it will grow on me! We wander and then lie on the local town beach in the shade.
A small Ouzo on the balcony which does benefit from the evening sun. Then an Aperol watching the sunset and supper in a small taverna that we remember from last time. We go to the kitchen to choose from the dishes of the day. Back for a good night’s sleep
